PINEAPPLE SAILS
Photo Index
This kevlar 150% genoa on "Heart of Gold", a Schumacher 50, represents our 1990 thinking of combining light kevlar in the front and heavier tafetta baked kevlar in the leech. This is at the start of the 1990 Cabo race. Today we are convinced that kevlar sails work best if the laminate does not change across the sail; if there is taffeta in the leech, then we will use taffeta in the luff too. The mixing of taffeta and non-taffeta backed material leads to differential shrinking as the sail ages.
